Savage Arms: A History of Innovation
With a long history of success in the industry, Savage Arms was founded in 1894 by Arthur Savage. Working out of Utica, New York, Savage introduced his model 1895 as the first hammerless lever action rifle available at that time. By 1920, the company had continued to see success in the industry and was able to purchase Stevens Arms to expand their offerings.
During World War II, Savage worked with the US Military and was actually responsible for producing most of the Thompson submachine guns used during the war. Through the 60s, 70s, and 80s, the company went through various owners and by 1988 it was having financial difficulties. By 2002, the company had turned its fortune back around when it introduced the AccuTrigger. Now stationed out of Westfield, Massachusetts and having the slogan “The Definition of Accuracy,” Savage Arms continues to produce high-quality rifles.
Centerfire Rifles for Your Next Hunting Trip
One of the innovations that Savage is best known for is its AccuTrigger, which works out a special assembly to help provide the most reliable and accurate performance available from a weapon today. Virtually all of their rifles are made using this AccuTrigger, which will be immensely helpful if you intend to hunt. Among their hunting weapons, you might be interested in one of their many varmint rifles.
The 25 Walking Varminter is part of their lightweight varmint series. It comes standard chambered in .17 Hornet but is also available in .204 Ruger, .22 Hornet, or .223 Rem. Regardless of what caliber you opt for, you can enjoy a precision carbon steel barrel and a synthetic stock that keeps the weapon lightweight. Of course, if you enjoy a more classic rifle look, you might instead opt for the 12 Varmint Low Profile model. This uses a stainless steel barrel and a wood laminate stock to provide a durable and attractive varmint rifle. It offers a variety of calibers, including: .204 Ruger, 22-250 Rem, .243 Win, and more.
Of course, varmint hunting isn’t all that Savage Arms offers its customers. If you are interested in larger game, you might look at their Hunter Series of rifles. Among these rifles, the 11/111 BTH is a popular option. It features their AccuTrigger and offers a hinged floorplate magazine for convenient performance. The carbon steel barrel provides great accurate and the wood laminate stock is attractive yet lightweight. Most important, it comes chambered in a variety of calibers ranging from 22-250 Rem up to .308 Win.
Target and Law Enforcement Rifle Models
If you are specifically searching for a target rifle, Savage also offer Target Model rifles as a way to narrow down your search. Though they have a wide variety of options available, these come standard with the AccuTrigger and typically offer a single-shot bolt action configuration. They use a wood laminate stock and provide a satin finish for a great look and solid performance. As they are intended for target shooting, they come drilled and tapped for scope mounts. The 12 Benchrest is one popular series, coming standard in .308 Win but also offers 6 Norma BR of 6.5x284 Norma chambering if you prefer.
For law enforcement shooters, you might be interested in one of the Law Enforcement Series offered. The 11 Scout is a great option to consider if you are sticking to .308 Win. Not only does it use the AccuTrigger, but it also offers the AccuStock, which will further ensure you stay on target when it is most important. Its carbon steel barrel comes topped with a muzzle brake and the adjustable iron sights will provide great accuracy right out of the box.
Rimfire Rifles for Your Training and Practice
If you are looking for a Rimfire rifle either to save money on your ammo or to help teach your child how to shoot, you should consider one of their many rimfire rifles instead. The Mark II series is a popular option. All of these come chambered in the inexpensive .22 LR but they offer a variety of different configurations to suit your needs. You can select between bolt action models or semi-auto configurations as well as wood or synthetic stocks.
Also Try A Savage Arms Shotgun
Of course, no company like this would be complete if it didn’t also offer some shotguns for sale. The Stevens Series of shotguns is place to start, offering both the 555 and the 320 Pump. If hunting is your game, the 555 is the perfect option, offering 12, 20, 28, or 410 gauge options. Alternatively, the 320 comes available in only 12 or 20 gauge. It has a variety of configurations, including a tactical model that features a pistol grip and stock with ghost ring sights.
