The History of a Competitive Innovator
After winning the World Speed Shooting Championship in 1986, Chip McCormick decided to enter what he often describes as an even more competitive arena: the world of manufacturing performance parts. This journey began with his Shooting Star line of extended 1911 magazines, which were built to deliver competition-ready performance. Over the years, he has continued to innovate and adapt with the times, becoming a model for many larger firearm manufactures on how to design the best magazines and parts. Today, the company continues to make custom magazines and other 1911 competition parts.
Chip McCormick Custom Magazines
After almost 30 years, the Shooting Star line of 1911 magazines still remains a popular option for modern shooters. Imitating the classic 1911 performance, it offers a more reliable design with 50% tighter tolerances than other mil-spec options out there today. Though it is the same length as stock magazines, it offers an extra capacity, allowing for 8 rounds to be loaded. After some improvements in 1992, this series has never suffered from a single cracked feed lip, which is a common problem in the industry. These .45 mags come available with a base pad or without.
As a new development, many competition shooters have chosen to go instead with the Power Mag series. Made with the same quality materials and construction processes as the Shooting Star line, these Power Mags come in the 8 round capacity or in a special 10 round capacity model. These are designed to extend the service life a magazine and ensure it offers smooth performance every time, giving you the action you need in a competition.
In 2010, they introduced a new magazine based on this design called the Power Mag+. These models use the same basic specifications as the Power Mag but uses a new patent pending follower offering a 100% aluminum frame safe design. Alternatively, the Match Grade mags are another model, which feature a 75% tighter tolerance than the standard mil-spec mags on the market.
Other Chip McCormick Accessories

This gives you the ability to find everything you need in one convenient marketplace and ensures you always have the best chance while at the range. Naturally, one of the first things you might look at are the base pads. These extended base pads are made for the best in shooting success and can be easily attached to your favorite magazines if you know what you are doing. Offering base pads ranging from concealment purposes to extended competition pads, this allows you the freedom to adjust your mags based on your current needs.
Chip McCormick also makes a variety of conversion kits to change the caliber and action of your weapon. This can be great if you want to shake things up while using a familiar platform. Finally, you might be interested in their rose grips, which offer a slimmer profile than the standard option and give your 1911 a unique look.
