Owning a gun is as much a part of the American culture as anything else. From the foundation of the Union, freedom fighter proudly help onto their guns as a way to personally protect what was theirs. Back in those days, it was essential that they have a means for personal protection, as there was no police or legal force to respond to threats. Of course, gun owners today understand that this was not the only reason to own a gun, and they proudly hold onto that right as a tradition of what it means to be American. Every once in a while, a new firearm manufacturer pops up that understands this tradition and Charter Arms is just one of those companies.

Rising from the Heart of America
Hailing from New England’s Gun Valley, Charter Arms was established in 1964 by Douglass McClennahan. As a former employee of Colt, High Standard, and Sturm Ruger, McClennahan started this new company with a vision of providing high quality firearms that people could really afford to buy. This began with The Undercover revolver, which was chambered in .38 special and features a light construction that many shooters immediately got behind. Building upon that success, they now manufacture a variety of revolvers, all offering quality construction you can trust.
Charter Arms Standard Revolvers
Naturally, one of their most popular models is still The Undercover model. Made with a stainless steel frame, this weapon continues to have a light 16 ounce carry weight and is chambered to accept .38 special P+ rounds. It has a 5 shot capacity and a 2” barrel with compact grips that get the job done right. Shooters can choose from a variety of finishes for a more unique look. Of course, for those who want something even lighter, you might consider The Undercover Lite model. Using the same basic specifications, this model swaps out stainless steel for a 7075 aluminum frame, which shaves off a full 4 ounces on the carry weight.
If you want something a bit more powerful, you might consider the .357 Mag Pug Revolver. This model offers full grips to ensure a positive hold on the weapon and gives users a .357 Mag with 5 rounds at the ready. It features a stainless steel frame and a 2.2” barrel, coming into the lineup with a reasonable 23 ounce carry weight.
Next in line, the Pitbull revolver is one of the popular model series to come out more recently. The 9mm option comes with neoprene grips while the .40 S&W model is equipped with full rubber. While the 9mm model is glass beaded, the .40 offers a 416 stainless steel construction. Both offer a comfortable action that you can count on in the field.
Larger Caliber Revolvers from Charter Arms
If you want something with a bit more kick to it, you might consider getting the Pitbull 45 ACP model. Chambered in .45 ACP and accepting 5 rounds in the cylinder, this model features a classic revolver look with a bit more stopping power. Its dual coil spring assembly makes it easy to load and reload the revolver with this powerful cartridge. The 2.5” barrel allows for easy accuracy in a self-defense situation and full grips provide a comfortable hold under stress.
For those who want something with a more classic revolver look you might explore the .44 Special Classic Bulldog. With its carbon steel construction and wood grips, it is reminiscent of something you might spot in an old western. The 3” barrel design gives a bit more accuracy and the 5 rounds of .44 special provide you the power you need. Whether you’re more interested in looks or performance, this piece has definitely got you covered.
Lower Caliber and Target Options
For female shooters or those with a smaller frame, you might be interested in checking out one of the lower caliber models available. To answer the need for something with a smaller kick, Charter Arms introduced the .32 H&R model. With finishes ranging from Gold & Black to Pink, or Lavender, it allows anyone to find a weapon they can shoot reliable. It uses a lightweight 7075 aluminum frame, which is more than durable enough to stand up to regular use. Chambered in .32 H&R Mag, it offers a lighter recoil than most models and allows for easier control.
Of course, if you are looking to get a target shooter, then you should instead check out the .22 Mag Pathfinder Lite. This model uses a 6 shot cylinder and offers the .22 Mag round to allow younger shooters to get used to the feel of a small revolver. Since it weighs in at 16 ounces, it simulates the look and feel of a higher caliber model, but allows for lower recoil to get a shooter acquainted with the platform more easily.
Special Commemorative Models
Finally, Charter Arms also makes a special commemorative model called the “Heller Commemorative” .44 Bulldog. This special edition model celebrates the victory in “Heller vs. DC.” Where the US. Supreme Court struck down the handgun ban in DC and affirmed the Second Amendment as an individual right. It is limited to a 250 production run, so finding one may not be easy.
