Reimaging Your Carry Pistol with Boberg Arms

When Boberg Arms was first established in White Bear Lake, MN, they set out to change the way people looked at the pocket pistol. This began with their introduction of the patented Reverse Feed System. The innovative new system works differently than every subcompact pistol before it, and for most shooters the changes are welcome. The basic system works by loading the cartridge into the back of the magazine. As a shot is fired and the slide moves to the rear, it strips the spent round out the back.

The new cartridge is lifted directly into the bolt face and as the slide returns it is pushed into position. This completely eliminates the need for a feed ramp and allows them to tighten the chamber to reduce gases and pressure. As a result, it is more accurate, has better handling, and most importantly, lowers the felt recoil of the weapon.

Boberg Arms XR Series of Pistols

This innovative system allows them to design weapons that remain small in stature but have much longer barrels than the typical subcompact. Naturally, this results in better accuracy and superior ballistic performance. For the civilian shooter, this comes in three primary options: XR9-S, XR9-L, and XR45-S. No matter which option you choose, you can select between an onyx finish, platinum finish, or two-tone finish.

The XR9-S was the original firearm offered by Boberg Arms. Chambered to take 9mm P+ rounds, it comes standard with a 7+1 capacity. Its aircraft-grade aluminum construction allows for a 17.4 ounce carry weight with the magazine. This frame is supported by black Zytel grips, which provide an ergonomic design to ensure the weapon fits comfortably in most hands. In fact, the unique system allows for a much more conducive design to fit in the human hand, making for a more comfortable shooting experience.

In terms of size, the XR9-S measures out to be 5.1” long, 4.2” tall, and only 0.96” wide. Despite these small dimensions, it uses a 3.35” barrel, which affords accuracy that is more in line with a compact. The low-profile sights offer a no-nonsense target picture and the 7.5 lb. trigger pull works for this platform quite nicely under pressure.

If you are looking for something a bit larger, you might consider the XR9-L series. It uses the same basic configuration as the S series, but offers a larger frame for better overall performance. These adjustments put it to 5.95” long, and 4.2” high, but it is able to maintain that slim 0.96” width. It uses a 4.2” barrel, which will compete with many full-sized weapons. Despite this, it still only weighs 18.5 ounces with a magazine loaded. Like the XR9-S, it is rated to handle 9mm P+ ammo.

Also following the basic design, Boberg Arms introduced the XR45-S model. This option is chambered in .45 ACP and is rated to accept P+ rounds. It has a 6+1 capacity and uses the same low-profile sights as the smaller caliber models. Overall, it measures 5.77” long, 4.4” high, and 1.08” wide at the slide. The standard barrel is 3.75”, but it offers an optional 4.2” and 4.6” model. The trigger pull is ramped up to account for the higher caliber, resting at 8 pounds flat.
