While we worked to cover as many stories as possible during Shot Show, there are only so many hours in the day. With that in mind, we covered as much as we could on the blog throughout the week, but as we go forward we hope to add some more coverage about new products we are excited to see. Among those products, the new EOTech Vudu Precision Rifle Scope is definitely deserving of its own highlight.
EOTech Mending It’s Reputation?
While EOTech has had more than a few issues as of late with their sights, it looks like their new Vudu might be just what is needed to patch some holes. Namely, you may recall EOTech paying out around $25 million due to defects in products they sold to the US Military. Those holographic sights were not as accurate as promised, namely due to extreme heat or cold affecting the optics. Despite their payout, they still kept quiet about the matter, but at Shot Show 2016 it seemed like they were ready to open up.
In fact, the representatives were more than forthcoming this year in an effort to renew confidence. Within that effort, they also made it quite clear that this new Vudu is still in development. This means what we see on the specs sheet now may not end up being exactly what they release. Just the fact that they are open about this could be a step in the right direction.
Looking at the EOTech Vudu
Made from a solid piece of aircraft-grade aluminum, the new EOTech Vudu looks like it’s ready for the job. It features push-button illumination controls and offers a sleek design that is sure to turn some heads. Precision adjustments can be easily made with the control knobs and they should be able to stand up to those environmental stresses that have been known to plague older models. Of course, EOTech further pushed the envelop by admitting that they still wanted to make improvements. They explained their there controls might not work as well over the long run, so they hoped to develop it further before final release. Whether they achieve this or not is yet to be seen, but having this sort of honesty should definitely help improve their reputation.
Of course, the thing that impressed us the most were the advertised specifications. Among them, the Vudu is supposed to get a whooping 10,000 hours of use with its standard battery. While they reiterated that this is just an early estimate, it would still be impressive considering the type of scope. Even if it falls a bit short of this, its handy “auto-off” feature will turn the scope off after 2 hours of inactivity, which will help conserve battery life in the field. With the choice of an MOA or Horus H59 reticle available, anyone should be able to find one that fits their needs.
