When the casual target shooter or prepper is looking for a new rifle, he might put price as his primary concern. He would rather buy an entry-level AR than a professional model because he can use it right away and worry about improving it down the road as money is available. Alternatively, the modern operator needs a gun that he can trust to work right out of the box, one that is really capable of handling the heat of battle. Often times, this means a bigger price tag, but it also means a larger list of features to help ensure his shooting success.
Many modern manufacturers look to build upon their reputation by offering professional-level alternatives to the entry-level models. This means getting a gun that was designed with the tactical operator in mind, ready and fully capable of field use without further modification. With the SR series, Ruger looked to improve the basic AR design with modern American manufacturing and offer a robust, yet affordable alternative to the other professional models out there. Realizing that the modern shooter also liked a bigger cartridge, they released the Ruger SR-762, which offers the perfect combination of stopping power and reliability.
About the Ruger SR-762
Using a chrome-lined, cold hammer-forged barrel, the Ruger SR-762 starts out just right. It is constructed from 41V45 chrome-moly-vanadium steel to provide longevity. Meanwhile, it uses some of the most precise rifling to provide accuracy and comes fluted to keep things cool, effectively improving accuracy and reliability. Each barrel is topped off with a Ruger flash suppressor, which keeps your muzzle profile a bit more controlled in the field. Of course, you wouldn’t be able to take advantage of this accuracy out of the box if not for the included iron sights. These are foldable for when you install more advanced optics, but features reliable accuracy when you need them.
This rifle uses a four-position gas regulator, which allows you to adjust based on the situation and gives you optimal control over the weapon in the field. Using a mil-spec buffer tube and a six position collapsible stock, you can trust that you will be able to adjust the gun to fit your particular needs. Of course, you will also enjoy the Ruger Elite 452 AR-Trigger, which is a two-stage design that guarantees a crisp pull with each shot you fired. Realizing that you might need accessories, it also includes a Ruger handguard, which was designed to accept picatinny rail sections at the 12:00, 9:00, 6:00, and 3:00 positions. Supported by a Hogue Monogrip, you can trust that you will always have a comfortable handle on the weapon.
