There are a wide variety of AR-15 manufacturers out there today, but selecting the right one can seem difficult at times. Building What They Know
Brothers Mark and Chuck Larson had worked together for years before they branched out and built Rock River Arms. Their major accomplishments started with Springfield Armory, where Mark worked as a head armorer. From there, the Larsons moved to Les Baer until 1993. Finally, in 1996, they discovered exactly where they belonged when they established Rock River Arms, Inc. Founded on AR-15 parts and accessories, they began building their own rifles to help the modern shooter get the best performance in the field. With their experience working on 1911s, they also started building their own line of these iconic pistols. Today, they continue to grow and expand their selection of available weapons, offering shooters great value with every purchase.
The LAR-15 Rifle System
One of the things that really sets Rock River Arms apart from other brands is that they give the shooters a variety of options when selecting their rifle. Rather than just buy the cheapest or most expensive model, they allow a variety of options to be left to the user, making it easy to get a rifle build that is within your price range. Of course, they still have some base models to help you make your selection. No matter which model you go with, these LAR-15 rifles are based around the Mil-spec AR design and offer a 5.56 NATO / .223 Rem chamber.
The Entry Tactical model is a perfect example of their fine manufacturing processes, offering an affordable entry level tactical rifle. It uses a forged A4 style receiver and comes with a 16” chrome moly barrel with a 1:9 twist and topped with an A2 flash hinder. Featuring a Star Safety selector and a special two stage trigger, it is built to perform. It comes with a rubber Hogue grip and a 6-position adjustable stock, all while offering 1 MOA accuracy at 100 yards out.
The LAR-8 Rifle System
Of course, shooters today often want a bit more power out of their rifle. With this in mind, they produce the LAR-8 rifle, which uses the AR platform but is chambered in .308 / 7.62x51mm. Like the LAR-15, this model offers a variety of configurations to fit your individual needs. The basic layout offers an A2 handguard and buttstock and includes a Hogue pistol grip. It comes with a 20” chrome moly barrel offering a 1:10 twist and topped with an A2 flash hinder. Like the smaller rifle system, it makes the same 1 MOA promise at 100 yards.
Other Popular Rock River Arms Rifles
Realizing that the AR does not have a monopoly on people’s interests, Rock River Arms also produces their own LAR-47, an AR-47 inspired model that is built to perform. This comes chambered in the classic 7.62x39mm cartridge and uses a proprietary forged lower receiver. It offers plenty of modern rifle accessories, such as an adjustable stock, A2 flash hinder, and CAR handguard to provide the performance you can rely on.
In addition to this, they also produce other AR-styled rifles chambered in a variety of popular calibers. Naturally, the .300 AAC is one of the more popular variants, offering tactical performance in a well-designed package. Additionally, they offer the 6.8mm SPC cartridge and a .458 SOCOM model. If you want that AR feeling with pistol ammunition, you might instead turn to a 9mm or .40 S&W model rifle, which they also produce.
Though their selection of these pistols is not quite as wide, Rock River Arms also builds some of the highest quality 1911s available today. Of course, one of their more unique models is the 1911 Poly, which uses an external polymer frame around a steel frame insert to provide a lighter option than the traditional weapon. It still maintains the same visual profile, offering a 5” barrel with a Commander-style hammer and beavertail grip safety. Naturally, it is chambered in .45 ACP and the standard magazine accepts 7 rounds of ammo. Of course, they also offer performance 1911 models, such as the Custom Tactical Pistol, which not only includes a variety of helpful features but also offers a 2.5” group guarantee at 50 yards using 185 grain Federal Gold Medal Match Semi-Wadcutter ammo.
Rock River Arms Magazines and Related Parts
Of course, no matter what brand of rifle you are shooting, it is important that you have enough magazines at the ready to get the job done right. For this reason, Rock River Arms manufacturers magazines for all their rifle calibers, allowing you to find the right option to fit your needs. Made with high quality aluminum, these are meant to last. While you’re at it, you can also pick up a magazine coupler to make reloading go more smoothly. Also, you can select from a variety of other rifle parts, including magazine pouches and replacements parts to keep up with regular maintenance.
