About ARES Defense Systems
Founded in 1997 by Geoffrey A. Herrting, ARES Defense Systems, Inc. is a privately held company that designs and manufactures both firearms and select firearm accessories. They focus on technologically advanced options for military and law enforcement, but also offer products for “responsible” civilian shooters. Headquartered in Melbourne, Florida, ARES Defense has a variety of advanced manufacturing systems available including: a state-of-the-art CNC machining centers, 3-D solid-modeling and manufacturing CAD/CAM systems. This is supported by a dedicated quality control team and an experienced design and manufacturing team dedicated to creating the newest and best weapons.
ARES Defense Rifles
ARES offers a variety of different rifles for civilian and military use. Among those rifles is the ARES SCR. This sporting rifle can come in either 5.56 or 7.62 and features either a 16.25” or 18” barrel. It utilizes a multi-caliber modular design which actually allows parts to be switched out quickly to change based on your specific needs at the time of using. With a Magpul MOE handguard and a MilSpec 1913 flat upper to accept any new sights, it comes ready to perform.
Of course, the staple of ARES Defense is the ARES-15 MCR. Named MCR for Mission Configurable Rifle, this weapon uses a unique modular system that allows shooters to reconfigure the weapon without tool to fit specific mission parameters. Users can change out for a longer or shorter barrel in a matter of seconds and the six position adjustable stock allows for an easy transition as well. Among its more creative options, users can also configure it to be a belt-fed rifle by using a belt-fed module sold by ARES.
For military personnel, the ARES-16 is the next step in this evolution. It is built around the same system as the MCR but features extra light-weight and compact options. It can be designed to work as a variety of weapons ranging from a sub-carbine to a designated marksman rifle, all able to be reconfigured in about 30 seconds or less.
ARES Defense Gas Piston Conversion Kit
One of the premier offerings by ARES Defense is their GXR-35 Black Lightning Piston Kit. Built as a performance system upgrade for M-16, M-4, and AR-15 style rifles, this complete retrofit kit takes only minutes to install. It replaces your direct-gas tube system with a self-regulating gas-piston and cylinder assembly. The benefits of this upgrade include: improved reliability, cooler running, increased control, better performance with any ammunition.
This conversion kit was made in the USA and includes a “drop-in” design that will allow anyone to install it (no gunsmithing required). It also includes a single-piece bolt carrier that was designed to prevent tilt in the weapon. To test it out, the designers at ARES put it through a 10,000 round torture test and it came out the other end still ready to fire with the best of them.
